I am not Michael Davis, the attorney from Ohio or Michael Davis, the Australian soccer star or
Michael Davis who served as Executive Chair of the Committee for the Nation's Health. We just all
share the same awesome name.

I am not Michael Davis, the philosopher who said, "I started out with nothing and I still have most
of it". I wish I had said it, because it's cute. But it didn't come from me.

I am not the president of Michael Davis Construction in Sagaponack, NY or Michael Davis
Architecture and Interiors in New York City. And I am not Michael Davis the investor and internet
executive. But they all sound rich, so I wish I had their dough.

I did not discover a millisecond pulsar in 1982. I am not the California State Assemblyman. And I am
not the magazine publisher who wiggled out of a $100 million defamation law suit by promising to
stop calling Tom Cruise gay.

I am not the British film director. I am not the guitar player from Charleston, S.C. I am not the bassist
of MC5. And I am not the jazz trombonist, but he and I studied at Eastman at the same time.

I am not Judge Michael Davis of Minneapolis, MN. I am not Mike Davis, coach of the UAB Blazers
men's basketball team. I am not Mike Davis, editor of the New Left Review or the retired Major
League Baseball outfielder (which is good because I throw like a girl).

I am not the former professional wrestler, the U.S. pool player, or the former NFL football player. I
am not Michael Davis, the juggling comedian (even though people laugh when I try to juggle).

I am not an MD (medical doctor), Mickey D. (hamburger) or MGD (beer).

I am not the welder who graduated from Williamsburg Tech. I am not Chrissy Ellis' boyfriend and I
am not "Yung $ Unique" on myspace.com, though all four of us share the same middle name.

I'll bet there are thousands of Michael Davis' all over the country - not to mention England and
Canada. This is what happens when you have the sixth most common surname in the United States
and your first name has been the most popular boy's name every complete decade since the 1960's.

But I am the only flutist, composer, teacher, writer, poet and lyricist with a doctorate and two
masters degrees Michael Davis that I know.
