Alleluia for Chorus A Cappella SATB Chorus 2:41 I tried to capture the reverence and awe of the Resurrection rather than the jubilation and joy it normally inspires |
Spirit Bamboo flute and drums (2:54) This very lively work can also work with piccolo or clarinet. A drum track is available and I am working on an audio tutorial for those who want to learn it on bamboo flute. |
CoRTEX Flute, trombone and percussion (1 player) 3:14 A fun piece that uses non traditional sounds |
Miracles (poem by Arna Bontemps) Soprano, flute and harp (2:40) A beautiful song about Christian faith from an African-American perspective |
Let the Children Come to Jesus Children's chorus, SATB chorus, flute and piano (2:50) This charming piece begins with a simple, yet memorable melody in the children's choir followed by a nice counter melody in the flute solo. Then the adult chorus comes in with a black gospel feel and all three come together in the end. The words are inspired by Mark 10:14. |
Lyrics for Flute and Harp Flute and harp (or piano) 9:30 published by Alry Publications, etc. A very philosophical piece in 3 movements. It begins with"Purusha" which means ‘Person’ or 'true identy', segues into "Shanti" which means 'peace' and ends with "Vitarka", 'reasoning' or 'debate'. So, my plan was to have the work begin with a feeling of oneness and then journey through serenity into doubt and debate. I've got the flute and harp "talking" with each other (which is why I named it "Lyrics"). And the big debate ends with an uneasy compromise (represented by a reworking of the Purusha theme). Even though the movements are integrally related, "Shanti" is quite lovely and works as a stand alone. |
Where Did You Go? SATB Chorus and string quartet This work in progress has a bluesy feel. The words come from a poem I wrote about loss and how much more painful it can be when we don't know what happened. |
Enigmatical Man Flute and piano (4:00) published by Alry Publications, etc. With optional 2nd flute, bass, and marimba. Slow and lyrical but somewhat challenging. |
The Snow White Ballet Flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, French horn, 'cello, harp, digital piano (organ and harpsicord), synthesizer and percussion (50:00, 2 acts) This is a cute work written, for the most part, in the classical/romantic style. It's cyclical (begins and ends with a flute/bassoon duet) and very thematic. To my knowledge, it's the only music written specifically for a ballet about Snow White. |
Hollow Bird Native American cedar flute and drums (2:50) |
The Bird Song Soprano (or tenor), flute and piano (3:20) This is a humorous piece where the singer (voicing the thoughts of the flutist) complains about always having to be the bird. The flute part was inspired by some of the "birdy excerpts" in the symphonic literature and isn't easy. The words come from a poem I wrote several years ago which was published in The Flutist Quarterly. |
Southern Mansion (poem by Arna Bontemps) Bass-baritone, flute (or alto flute) and piano (2:54) A haunting work about an old plantation which tells two very different stories: one about the people who chose to live there and another about the people who were forced to. |

Half of Two Plus Two Bb Clarinet, Marimba and Piano (2:15) This is a very exciting work. Too much so to name it "Trio" which was the working title. Half of two plus two is equal to three (see "Backward" on my 'blog) and does a better job of capturing the complexity of the work. |
